Our first stop on this little escapade was High Brow Brew, an adorable little shop located in Downtown Franklin. It’s in a relatively new neighborhood with lots of shops, businesses, and a giant lake in the middle. I’d actually been there once before when I was interested in joining a LARP guild; the owners of the café happened to be in the group and suggested we meet there. Unfortunately our plans fell through so I haven’t been in contact since then, but they’re very nice people. The store itself has a rustic vibe and it’s nothing short of adorable. It’s very spacious with small bench-like tables on either side of the walls and a large table in the middle that holds pastries. It’s quiet with just the right amount of coffee shop buzz, so it’s the perfect place to go if you’re looking for somewhere to study. I ordered a raw vanilla latte, which I found to be too bitter for my taste. My mom got a spiced mocha latte, though I’m not sure how she even drank it. It somehow managed to be even more bitter than mine. However, I must say that they’re the type of place that uses the foam to make a little design on the surface of the drink, which I absolutely adore. I need to learn how to do that…To eat we both ordered a blueberry-lemon poppy seed muffin, though some miscommunication occurred and it turned out to be a normal lemon poppy seed (which isn’t a bad thing, I just wasn’t expecting it). In all honesty, I didn’t think the muffins were anything special. They weren’t necessarily bad, they just didn’t taste like much of anything, though there was a hint of lemon. High Brow Brew also offers a few other muffin flavors and sourdough cinnamon buns, all of which can be ordered gluten free. A glass case beside the register held a variety of specialty ice creams, though I didn’t get the chance to check out the flavors. Overall the service was excellent and the shop adorable, but the flavors weren’t suited to my taste.
